Formula D Round 1
Long Beach, CA
April 11th, 2009
The weather was great in Long Beach for the kickoff to the 2009 Formula D season. Team Dynamic Autosports was excited to get the year started with a bang.
After a great 2008 season, our driver Robbie Nishida is determined to show no mercy. With a new vinyl scheme, fully refreshed motor build, and few other tweaks, the Hankook Tire/Dynamic Autosports 350z is ready to go for the Championship this year. Team Dynamic Autosports also welcomes enthusiastically a new addition, Irish ProDrift Champion, Eric O’ Sullivan.
Robbie was looking strong in practice and qualified 8th for the main event on Saturday. In the Top 32 round Robbie Nishida in the Hankook/Dynamic 350Z made quick work of Takatori who was piloting a S13.Top 16 pitted Robbie against Quoc Ly in the Driftspeed S14. Quoc put up a good fight, but Robbie had the clear win.In the Top 8 round, Robbie went against Stephan Verdier in the Crawford STi. Stephan was on fire all weekend taking out Rhys Millen and Chris Forsberg, however he was not able to knock out Robbie and our Z33.
Heading into the Semi-Finals we were matched against Samuel Hubinette in the tried and proven Mopar Viper as the Mopar Challenger was not ready for the 1st event. On the lead run, Robbie looked to have the advantage over Sam. During the chase run, Robbie did not want to leave anything to question and was on the rear bumper of the Mopar Viper. Robbie was a bit too aggressive on the final turn and spun out. The team quickly regrouped to prepare for the battle for 3rd place.
The 3rd place match was between Robbie and "The Golden Child" Tanner Foust in his NASCAR Powered V8 Scion TC (does that even sound right?)

Robbie gave chase in the 1st run and spun out while following Tanner when he saw a flash of red from the brake lights. Luckily, Tanner faulted in the 2nd run hitting Robbie and setting up a "One More Time" During the “One More Time” run, it was too close to call and the Judges called for another “One More Time.”In the 2nd “One More Time”, Robbie pushed a bit too hard and went a little wide hitting the wall and losing his angle. In the end the Judges awarded 3rd place to Tanner and the Rockstar Energy Drink/Hankook Tire V8 Scion TC while Robbie and the Hankook Tire/Dynamic Autosports 350z took a very respectable 4th place. The Hankook Tire/Dynamic Autosports 350Z has proven to be a top competitor and we are shooting for the championship this year. Anything less is unacceptable in the eyes of Robbie and the team so expect some aggressive competition this season.
